Novation Supernova II Wheel & Aftertouch Calibration

Introduction:

The Novation Supernova II has a hidden menu where the Pitch Bend, Modulation Wheel, and Aftertouch response can be re-calibrated.

If the wheels have been replaced due to damage or wear-and-tear they may have a different electrical range than the originals. This may cause them to not generate the full range of MIDI values, and the Pitch wheel may not settle on the center value of 128.

The Aftertouch strip may have aged and become more or less sensitive than it once was. Recalibrating this may be an alternative to replacing the strip.

Calibration Procedure

Hold down the Octave Down button and switch on the Supernova II.
Keep the button held down until the unit has booted.

When the Supernova II has booted you will see this screen:

The Aftertouch calibration screen is shown below:
The 200 value shown is the sensitivity of the Aftertouch strip. This can be adjusted by the Top Data knob to the right.
The sensitivity value can be adjusted from 0 to 255. The higher the value the more sensitive the Aftertouch.

To check the Aftertouch setting press down on one of the keyboard keys.
The value below the Sensitivity value should go all the way to 127 with the key pressed, and back to 0 when the key is released.
If the value does not go to 127 then increase the sensitivity using the Data Knob.
If it is too sensitive then decrease the sensivity value. If you set this too low the aftertouch value may not reach 127.
